Product Image Preview vs Checkout mismatch | lack of .svg support

When creating a product and uploading a product image the preview is in 1:1 format but on the checkout page you show the image in 16:9. And somehow SVG is not supported but there is no error indicating that, it just doesn't persist apparently. Would be cool if it was supported and the 16:9 aspect ratio was somewhat indicated when creating the product.
